    The Engine of Environmental Analysis: Introducing the BOD Incubator

    In certain fields like environmental science, water quality evaluation, microbial sciences etc., keeping accurate, stable and low temperature conditions are very important because without it accurate testing is not possible at all.

    The BOD Incubator, or Biochemical Oxygen Demand Incubator, is a unique and highly efficient piece of equipment that helps in achieving this accuracy, providing way more than its namesake test.

    What is the BOD Test?

    The term “BOD” stands for Biochemical Oxygen Demand for the evaluation of organic pollution levels in the water, sewage and industrial effluent.

    The test calculates the amount of dissolved oxygen consumption done by microorganisms while the organic matter is broken down by them in a sample of water over a period of time, which is normally 5 days at a continuous temperature of 20 °C.

    The BOD incubator is manufactured to keep the accurate, stable, and low temperature maintained, creating natural aquatic situations for trustable outcomes.

    Dual Functionality: Heating and Cooling

    The main thing which makes a BOD incubator and a standard incubator different from each other is its dual functionality, it provides the facility of both a heating and a refrigeration system (usually a CFC-free compressor).

    This helps it in allowing it to keep a certain range of temperature maintained, usually from 5°C to 60°C or more, regardless of the ambient temperature of the laboratory.

    This makes this mainly a refrigerated incubator or low-temperature one, which significantly enhances its usability.

    Applications beyond Water Quality

    While the BOD test is main use of this phenomenal equipment, it is also used to create the incubator’s stable, low-temperature environment, which makes it crucial for various types other fields:

    • Microbiology: For the cultivation of various microorganisms and conduction of antibiotic sensitivity testing that needs temperatures which are below 37°C.
    • Pharmaceutical Stability:  To conduct the stability testing for drugs and vaccines after artificially creating a controlled temperature and humid conditions when necessary.
    • Food & Beverage: It is used in testing the shelf life and microbiological examination to make sure that the product safety and quality is maintained.
    • Agricultural Research:   To facilitate the studies about seed germination and plant pathology related research after creating a controlled environmental stress.
